Looks cool but the plot is REALLY close to The Day of the Triffids, isn't it?

Not at all.The novel is a brilliant sophisticated tale of how a society deals with the unexpected and conflicts.
If you havent read the book I can only recommend you add it to your readinglist.
Saramago´s writing is fantastic.
